Interview with Marie:
1. What’s your full name and where are you from?
My name is Marie Starry, and I’m from Port Angeles, Washington.
2. What category are you competing in (Performance, Fashion, or Film)?
I’m competing in the Film category this year.
3. What inspired you to submit to Artsville LIVE this year?
Maria, who knows my passion for video creation, suggested I submit. Her encouragement was a big reason I decided to share my work with a wider audience.
4. Tell us a little bit about your piece or performance.
I’m really passionate about roller derby and roller skating, and I draw a lot of inspiration from my teammates. When the weather is nice, we often skate together at the Greenway, and my piece captures clips of us just having fun in those moments.
5. How long have you been practicing your craft or art form?
I started learning video editing back in 2002, and since then, I’ve used my skills to create content for my roller derby teams’ social media pages.
6. Who or what influences your creative work the most?
I’d say I’m most influenced by joy and kindness in the world. I always try to capture those moments that are filled with happiness, whether it’s through roller skating or just witnessing a random act of kindness.
7. What’s something people might not know about your creative process?
A lot of my video content is filmed while I’m actually on skates! Since I’m on them so often, my footage has a natural smoothness to it—even without using professional equipment. It’s a little trick I’ve picked up over time. 🙂
8. How do you hope people feel when they see your work?
I hope my videos make people laugh or feel happy. I want them to share in that joyful energy and feel a little lighter after watching.
9. Where can people follow your journey or connect with you online?
If you follow Clarksville Roller Derby or Vette City Roller Derby on social media, you’ll see a lot of the videos I create for both teams. Those platforms are where I share most of my work!
10. If you win Artsville LIVE, how do you plan to use the $1,000 prize?
Honestly, I haven’t really thought about that yet! 😬
